DAY 1 DEPARTURE FROM OKLAHOMA CITY, OK

DAY 2 ARRIVE AMSTERDAM (1 NIGHT)
Our guide will meet us at the airport and we will transfer to our hotel in Amsterdam.
We will begin our sightseeing today with a tour of the Van Gogh Museum, with
a marvelous collection of work by Vincent Van Gogh, of the worlds finest
artists. Van Gogh, along with Edvard Munch, had a profound effect on the artists
known as the German Expressionists. The museum houses a collection of paintings
and drawings, including The Potato Eaters and The Bedroom at Arles. We will
continue with a visit to the Rijksmuseum, one of Europes finest art galleries
in Europe, offering an unrivalled collection of Dutch art. We will have time
to explore the galleries, which include works by such masters as van Leyden,
Rembrandt, Hals and Vermeer.
DAY 3 AMSTERDAM - ESSEN - DORTMUND - DUSSELDORF (2 NIGHTS)
We will make an early morning start as we leave Holland and journey into western
Germany. Our first stop today will be in Essen, the capital of the Ruhr region.
We will visit the Museum Folkwang, which houses a major collection of 19th and
20th century painting, sculpture and photography. The collection includes works
by Courbet, Picasso, Dali, Magritte, Heckel, Kirchner, Nolde, Perchstein, Kandinsky,
Marc, Klee, Pollock and Rodin. We will continue on to Dortmund, an old Hanseatic
town and the beer center of the Ruhr. We will visit the Museum am Ostwall, featuring
works by the greatest exponents of German Expressionism, including Becker-Modersohn,
Macke, Nolde, Muller, Barlach, Kolbe and Kollwitz. We will continue to Dusseldorf,
our base for the next few evenings.
DAY 4 HALF DAY TRIP TO AACHEN - DUSSELDORF
This morning we will journey to the German city of Aachen, forever associated
with Charlemagne. We will begin with a visit to Aachen Cathedral, which was
begun by Charlemagne in AD 800. Our guided tour will include Charlemagnes
Throne, the choir, the Hungarian chapel and the Treasury, the most valuable
and celebrated ecclesiastical treasure north of the Alps. We will continue with
a visit to the Ludwig Forum fur Internationale Kunst, a former umbrella factory
now housing a remarkable collection of modern art. The building itself is a
splendid example of Bauhaus style and the collection includes works by Paik,
Antes, Lichtenstein, Borowsky, and Immendorf. We will return to Dusseldorf,
where we will visit the Kunstmuseum Dusseldorf, one of the largest and most
comprehensive museums in the Rhineland. The painting collection includes works
from the Die Brucke and Der Blaue Reiter schools.
DAY 5 DUSSELDORF - KOLN - BONN - FRANKFURT (2 NIGHTS)
This morning we will journey south to Koln, one of Germanys most beautiful
cities. We will begin with a visit to Koln Cathedral, the spiritual and geographic
heart of the city. Our tour of this magnificent cathedral will include an ascent
of the South Tower, where we will have a splendid panoramic view of the city,
as well as the Shrine of the Three Magi, the most important and valuable object
in the cathedral. We will conclude our day with a visit to the Kathe Kollwitz
Museum, which houses an impressive collection of the 20th century artists works.
We will continue to the capital of Western Germany before reunification, Bonn.
We will begin visit the Kunstmuseum Bonn, a triangular building flooded with
light, which contains one of the most important art collections along the Rhine.
The highlight of the museum is the collection of 20th century art, including
works by Rhenish expressionists, most notably the painter August Macke, but
also including works by Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff, Ernst and Seehaus. We will
continue to Frankfurt for the evening.
DAY 6 HALF DAY TRIP TO MANNHEIM - FRANKFURT
This morning we will make an early start and travel to Mannheim, the second
largest river port in Europe located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar
Rivers. Upon our arrival, we will visit the Stadtische Kunsthalle, a museum
concentrating on the works of the 19th and 20th century. Painting and sculpture
are equally represented, including works by Rodin, Brancusi, Manet, Monet, Cezanne,
Beckmann, Heckel, and Ensor. We will return to Frankfurt, where we will take
a tour of the Stadel Gallery, containing a fine collection from most European
schools of painting, including works by Durer, van Eyck, Renoir, Monet, Matisse,
Picasso, Marc, Beckmann and Kirchner. Our day will conclude with a visit to
the Museum Der Weltkulturen, a museum dedicated to the many unique cultures
found throughout the world. We will have the opportunity to vist both the Museum,
focusing on culture and Gallery 37, which focuses on modern art from around
the world.
DAY 7 FRANKFURT - STUTTGART (1 NIGHT)
We will continue south this morning, making our way to Stuttgart, a cultural
center in Germany and home to the world famous car manufactures Mercedes-Benz
and Porsche. We will begin our afternoon with a visit to the Staatsgalerie,
one of the finest collections of German Expressionist works in Germany, including
works by Kirchner, Barlach, Beckmann, Klee, and Feininger. We will conclude
our afternoon with a visit to the Linden Museum, dedicated to fine arts and
folk arts worldwide. The collection displays items from the Americas, the Pacific,
the Middel East, the Far East and Southern Asia.
DAY 8 STUTTGART - ULM - MUNICH AREA (4 NIGHTS)
This morning we will continue our journey east to the city of Ulm, We will begin
our morning with a Walking Tour beginning in the Fishers Quarter, with
its little medieval houses and tree-shaded squares, and continuing past the
Renaissance Rathaus dating from 1419, before stopping for a visit to the Ulmer
Museum. The museum contains local works dating from the 13th century to present,
including an interesting collection of 20th century art, including works by
Picasso, Klee, Stella and Rothko. This afternoon, we will visit Ulm Munster,
a German Gothic masterpiece featuring the tallest cathedral steeple in the world.
Our tour of the mighty cathedral will include an ascent of the spire for a magnificent
panoramic view of the town, the Danube, the plateau of the Swabian Jura and
the Alps. We will continue on to the Capital of Bavaria, Munich. After dinner,
we will attend a show at the world famous Hofbrauhaus.
DAY 9 MUNICH
This morning we will begin with a visit to the Alte Pinakotek, one of the worlds
great art museums with a large and important collection that represents the
greatest European artists from the 14th through the 18th centuries, including
Raphael, Tintorretto, Durer, van Dyck, Rembrandt, Monet and Van Gogh. We will
also visit the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady), a church destroyed in the
bombings of 1945. Completely restored, this simple Gothic style church is still
one of the citys finest landmarks. We will conclude our afternoon in the
Marienplatz in the heart of the Old City. We will ascend the tower of the Neues
Rathaus for a beautiful view over the city. The famous square also features
the Altes Rathaus, dating from the 15th century and the marvelous Glockenspiel
on the façade of the Neues Rathaus, which performs a miniature tournament,
with enameled copper figures moving in and out of the archways.
DAY 10 MUNICH
This morning we will visit Nymphenburg Palace on the outskirts of Munich. This
splendid palace, complete with lakes and hunting lodges, was once the residence
of the Bavarian kings. The rococo Banqueting Hall contains vivid frescoes based
on mythological themes, and the Gallery of Beauties displays portraits
of the loveliest women of the time of Ludwig I. There will be time to see the
elegant coaches in the carriage museum and to stroll in the formal gardens before
returning to Munich. We will continue with a tour of the Staatsgalerie Moderner
Kunst, Munichs State Gallery of Modern Art, housed in the west wing of
the Haus der Kunst. The museum contains a comprehensive collection of 20th century
art and sculpture, with the largest portion dedicated to German art including
the Expressionist school. We will view important works by Klee, Kirchner, Marc,
Schmidt Rottluff and Beckmann, as well as Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky, Miro,
and Dali.
Our final visit today will be the Stadtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, a museum,
containing the works of Munich painters of the 19th century and the avant-garde
Blauer Reiter Collection. This movement, born in the tumultuous period just
after WWI is represented by its founder members, Kandinsky, Marc, and Kubin,
as well as works by Klee, Jawiensky, and Macke.
DAY 11 DAY TRIP TO MURNAU & KOCHEL AM SEE
Today we will make an excursion to Murnau to visit the Castle Museum which house
works by various 19th and 20th century artists. We will conclude our afternoon
at the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See. Here we will view works by Franz
Marc and his colleagues from the "Blue Rider" group, like Kandinsky,
Muenter, Macke and Klee.
DAY 12 DEPARTURE FROM MUNICH
Your enjoyable and rewarding tour will come to an end as your guide accompanies
you to the airport for the return flight home.
