Performing Dance Program:

UCO’s award winning dance program offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Dance  and a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education (B.A. E.D.)  Outstanding faculty with a variety of backgrounds and professional experience offer training in technique, movement analysis, teaching methodology and dance history.  Students are given the tools to work in the professional field as well as be prepared for future graduate studies.

Dance Degrees: UCO’s Dance Program offers 2 degree options to prepare students for careers as performers, choreographers and teachers.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Dance provides comprehensive training which includes advanced levels of ballet, modern, jazz and tap as well as movement studies including Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Anatomy, Kinesiology, Treatment of Injuries and Pilates. Choreography studies include Improvisation, Composition I, Composition II and Choreographic Collaborations for Dancers and Musicians.

The Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education (B.A. E.D.) degree provides a curriculum devoted to the preparation and training of dance educators in the public school setting.  Students will be prepared to meet the newly approved Dance Education Competencies as well as the General Competencies for Licensure and Certification required of all teacher candidates.  Coursework includes technique, theory, teaching methodology for elementary and secondary education, field experiences and student teaching.

Kaleidoscope Dance Company: The Kaleidoscope Dance Company, the Dance Program’s touring repertory company entertains and educates audiences with its varied repertoire of modern, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap and theatre dance. The company averages 20 performance engagements a year including two annual campus concerts featuring faculty and guest artist work, two student showcases featuring student choreography, state and regional festivals and arts outreach tours to Oklahoma schools. Kaleidoscope has received many awards including the National College Choreography Initiative Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (2002 & 2004); the 2002 Outstanding Student Choreographer and the 2004 Outstanding Student Performer from the South-Central American College Dance Festival. The company was selected to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., May of 2002 and June of 2004.  In Spring, 2008 Kaleidoscope was invited to perform in Puebla, Mexico at the Performatica International Festival.

Guest Artists: The Dance Program invites guest artists in all genres and from around the world to teach and choreograph for the Kaleidoscope Dancers Company.  Past guest artists include: Bill Evans, Frank Chaves, Loretta Livingston, Sean Curran, Janice Garrett, Adam Parson, Glyn Grey, and Malaya.
